The Guardian Media Group / Hyper-reality

The award winning three little pigs advert, created by the Guardian, was made in the style of a documentary in a visually stunning up-date on the classic tale of the three little pigs. This tale was directed with a twist from the original however, the pigs could take no more of the devious wolf blowing their house down and they took it into their own hands to kill the wolf through the power of fear, sparking a huge debate in the court room.

This award winning campaign was designed to communicate the Guardians approach to open journalism and how they would go about to cover a story such as the three little pigs. This is a very clever association to demonstrate their whereabouts on such topics. It is a very visually compelling piece of work that is both engaging and informative, through the use of story telling and application. This is a new approach by the Guardian to encourage an open exchange of information, objective commentary on it, as well as current events. The advert expresses the constant evolving nature of a such story and is a captivating approach to connect the audience to the news reports and world wide significance.

Further more, the basis of this advert is to show the transformation of the news and the fact that news is no longer fed through one channel and body, it is now communicated through many through many. The advert highlights the guardians struggle to remain relevant with the evolution of technology, hence the use of all many digital applications to share the news in the video.

What I love most in this advert is the hyper-realistic application of the three little pigs with the plot twist to the tale. I could expand upon this idea for my hyper-reality project. Taking a classic tale and twisting the plot to communicate a message to a certain audience. Programmes most likely used to create this advert will be after effects, Cinema 4D with the application of video footage, Photoshop elements and photographs, all composed together to create the visually compelling outcome.
